Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema's French connection was enough to see off Spain in the 2021 final.

However, Denmark have Christian Eriksen fit and firing again and the Brentford ace will no doubt cause the UEFA Nations League holders some damage.

UEFA Nations League: Belgium, Netherlands face-off in 'glorified friendlies'

The battle for European supremacy continues as bitter rivals Belgium and the Netherlands face-off in a UEFA Nations League round-robin clash at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. The European giants are pooled in Group A4 of League 1, which also has Gareth Bale's Wales and Robert Lewandowski's Poland. The Polish side registered a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Welsh team on Thursday to open their campaign on a winning note. A victory for either Belgium and the Dutchmen will make the group even more interesting. The Red Devils will take on the Netherlands, Poland twice and Wales over the next couple of weeks - an overloaded schedule of international fixtures - which was slammed by Kevin de Bruyne recently. "Two weeks is too long. Well, as a player we can't change that much. I'm not exactly looking forward to it," he said at a press conference this week. "The Nations League is unimportant in my eyes. Just glorified friendlies after a long and tough season. I am not looking forward to it. "Anyway, we can say that we want more rest. Nothing changes anyway. Once on the field, we will do what we have to do." The Red Devils were impressive in the 2021-22 Nations League campaign but were beaten 2-3 by eventual winners France in the semi-final. The Roberto Martinez-led side also lost the third-place play-off against Italy. The Netherlands, on the other hand, couldn't make it to the last four after finishing second behind Italy in League A Group 1, with the European champions qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition. The Oranje have played two international fixtures this year. In the two friendlies against Denmark and Germany in March, Louis Van Gaal's side won the first match 4-2 and drew 1-1 with the latter, respectively. Both teams, who share an old rivalry, have played out 1-1 draws in their last two friendlies. But the old foes haven't met each other in a competitive fixture since the 1998 World Cup, where they played a goalless stalemate in the group stage.
